on the following weekend i will visit my parents in northern germany and guess what i planned for saturday morning! correct!! playing golf at the 13th best and 2nd toughest-to-play german golf course, club zur vahr, garlstedt course, which hosted the german open quite some times.

club zur vahr is quite an elite club (i can tell you from my time in bremen) and offers a wide range of country club facilities. so i wrote an email to the secretary if it would be possible to play a round at the famous parkland course north of bremen on this saturday. they refused and pointed me to their rule book which says that saturday/sunday play is only allowed in company to a regular club member.

since i do not know anybody in that club, i wanted an exception, because i thought there isn’t that much traffic on the course in early march that members should get protected from guests. but i was asked to play on a weekday, which is impossible in my case… bottom line: garlstedt will remain a white spot on my golf map for quite a while. a real pity!

the alternative that i will opt for, is playing the near golf club bremer schweiz. it’s not famous at all and seems to be not very challenging, but i will take pot luck and will definitely enjoy playing a new course in my home town. i will keep you posted on this… and will wait for another email reaction on my harsh response to garlstedt’s disinvitation. i guess by this time they realized that i’m not very happy about their decision!
