It’s FedEx playoff season – the PGA Tour is right in the middle of the FedEx Cup with nothing less than the run for the biggest cheque all year. The winner of a series of pretty serious tournaments lifts the FedEx trophy and with it not less than 10 million bucks in cash!
In this regard it’s consistency that matters the most because the FedEx Cup plays as a series of 4 tournaments which kicks out the bottom part after each weekend and only benefits these players which are always in contention throughout the whole period, collecting points to make it to the next round.
The tournaments are:
- The Barclays, Liberty National GC, NJ (Field 125)
- Deutsche Bank Championship, TPC Boston, MA (Field 100)
- BMW Championship, Conway Farms GC, IL (Field 70)
- Tour Championship by Coca-Cola, East Lake GC, GA (Field 30)
Every one of these tournaments has a purse of 8 million USD with a winning share of 1.44 million. If that’s not enough, the last man standing after all these four tournaments will earn two trophies, the one of the last tournament and the FedEx Cup trophy. The cheque will be the winning purse of 1.44 million USD plus the 10 million for winning it all – one damn lucky guy I’m sure.
Last winners Snedeker, Haas and Furyk are still within reach but unlikely to make it again to the top I guess. This year it’s others that are on the move. And although Tiger is in the lead of the FedEx Cup point standings I see others being ready for the hunt for the big money this time.
Guys like Masters champ Adam Scott, Open champ Phil Mickelson and “always so close” Henrik Stenson play such a good golf over the last weeks that I really would put my money on one of these – probably I really will… Scott won the first tournament (see video), The Barclays in fashion, leaving all behind him including Tiger Woods, who blamed it on his old back problem. No comment on that but he is for sure another tough contestant for the cup as he seems to find back his game lately.
I’m looking forward to very interesting next weeks – because there’s a lot of money on the table and there are so many blokes out there who can’t wait for it! Good luck guys – you live my dream!
