Second European Tour Event scheduled in Germany for 2015

For years I was complaining about the small number of tournaments being played in Europe, compared to those which belong to the European Tour but are actually played elsewhere in the world. Of course South-Africa or the Middle East offer a better climate during the European winter time, but I always was under the impression that the Continent deserves more tournaments played on home soil.

The same is true for classic golf destinations like England, Ireland, Wales or Spain, which is really not what it’s supposed to be. For years Germany had its BMW International Open in Munich (later alternating in Cologne) and that was it.

This is about to change! The 600,000+ German golf fans were delighted to read in the last days that the European Open will be brought back to life in Germany starting next year after a dormant period of 6 years. The Hartl Resort in Bad Griesbach in south-east Germany will host this prestigious event with an overall purse of €2m minimum. This is the first time that the European Open will take place outside the UK or Ireland.

“European Open”… well that’s music to my ears!
